Situated in the scenic countryside of West Sussex and near the coastal city of Brighton, Lancing College is a prestigious boarding school in the South of England known for its high academic standards and excellence in sports. When people mention British boarding schools, they usually refer to independent schools in the UK that come with boarding provision, of which there are over 400 across the country. Set in a Hertfordshire small town northwest of London, Berkhamsted School is an academic, large-scale independent boarding school very popular among local families. Catering to over 2,000 students across its prep and senior schools, it offers just around 100 boarding places, ensuring international students have ample opportunities to interact with local peers both inside and outside the classroom.
Berkhamsted implements the Diamond Model, where students in Year 7 to 11 are taught in single-sex classes, before transitioning to fully co-educational classes in Year 12 to 13, encouraging them to look past gender stereotypes and pursue their interests and strengths. Apart from that, Berkhamsted is also a pioneer in the UK for implementing a Smartphone-free School policy. University of Lancashire is a university in the Lancashire city of Preston, in the northwest of England, which is about an hour away from Manchester and Liverpool. The university is a powerhouse for Medicine and other Allied Health programmes. Options include Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, as well as Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Nursing, etc – and these are all open to international students! Unlike other medical schools, the MBBS in University of Lancashire is a 5-year programme specially designed for international students, while British students are subject to limited quotas. Students on the MBBS prorgammes will have placement opportunities in hospitals and clinics under the NHS.
Apart from Medicine and Allied Health, University of Lancashire also offers a few other unique and highly noteworthy programmes, including Fire Safety and Aviation & Pilot Training. Co-delivered by L3Harris Airline Academy London, students on the BSc (Hons) Aviation – Pilot Programme will spend part of their courses in the training base in Gatwick Airport and graduate with an airline transport pilot license (ATPL), which will qualify students to apply to commercial airlines as a pilot (subject to fulfilling flying experience and other professional requirements).

OnCampus London: University of London International Foundation Programme
OnCampus London delivers the University of London International Foundation Programme in their designated study centre in Birkbeck, University of London. The Programme provides a more challenging curriculum that comes with more diverse progression routes for students aspiring to top universities. With specially written study materials by University of London, students will study four academic subjects (normally students study three subjects in a foundation programme) alongside English language and personal development programmes – a total of 28 teaching hours per week. Upon completion, students will be eligible to apply to a range of UK universities, including top universities such as London School of Economics & Political Science (LSE), Bristol, Durham, Manchester, Nottingham and more!

UK University & Pathways Seminar
Undergraduate Year One in Top 30 UK universities normally require 443 to 5*55 in HKDSE, with subject-specific requirement depending on your choices of programmes. If students fall short of such requirement, they can progress through International Year One or University Foundation Courses. These programmes accept entry at 444 to 222 in HKDSE and enable qualified students to progress onto Year 2 and Year 1 of an undergraduate programme in Top 30 UK universities respectively. Students aiming for top universities and highly-competitive subjects such as medicine and actuarial sciences, however, will benefit from the 1-Year A-levels which also allows them to apply to universities in Hong Kong through the Non-Jupas route.

Abingdon School is a top boys’ boarding school in Oxfordshire, but from the 2024/25 academic year it will start to transition to co-educational. Its prep school started admitted girls from September 2024, while the senior school admitted girls from September 2026.

St Swithun’s School is a top girls’ boarding school in Winchester. Its 45-acre campus is situated close to the city centre and just 50 minutes away from London on a train.
