Whitgift School is a top all boys boarding school with a very advantageous location in London (Zone 5). With the options of GCE A-levels and International Baccalaureate (IB) in sixth form, Whitgift School enjoys a very good reputation in academic work and music and has in the past (2008-2011) been listed as one of the best 50 schools in the UK, out of 3000 schools. In recent years, however, Whitgift School has refused to be included in league tables published by newspapers in the UK – a move employed by many top independent schools to avoid parents paying too much attention on public exam results and overlooking other important aspects of education. That doesn’t mean that Whitgift School has lowered its standard on academic work though. In 2016, the A*-B rate in GCE A-levels remains an impressive 89%. In International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, the average score is 40.8, out of the 45 full marks – results that would have put the School in top positions in any league tables.

In Music, Whitgift School is famous for the orchestra, which collaborated with the The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London in 2011 and has performed in many other countries including Japan, Spain, German and more.

Since 2013, Whitgift School has expanded its boarding provision and can now provide more than 100 boarding places – which still does not satisfy the demand, making competition for places extremely fierce. Students are advised to apply two to three years in advance.

Summer School at Whitgift School

Every year in July and August, Whitgift School runs a summer school that offers 2 to 5-week programmes for boys and girls in junior (aged 11-14) and senior school (aged 14-17). Focus is mainly on English learning, with 23 teaching hours per week, coupled with a series of extracurricular activities – a very good option for students to experience British boarding school life with students from all over the world.
