As one of the best in Social Sciences, University of Essex is ranked the 54^th in the UK. Researches in Politics, Economics, Psychology and Sociology are all highly rated by REF (2021). Respectively 98%, 97%, 89% and 88% of researches in these disciplines were rated World Leading and Internationally Excellent – a very impressive achievement for a university with only 50 years of history. Today University of Essex is also one of the 18 Q-Step Centres for Quantitative Social Science Education in the UK, in which students can learn quantitative research skills (such as running large-scale polls, the use of statistical software such as SPSS, AMOSS and more) through elective modules. A number of professors in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Hong Kong are graduates of University of Essex.
