University for the Creative Arts (UCA) was granted full university status in 2008 after a merger of a few historical art schools of over 160 years of history. Today the University has become one of the largest creative education providers in Europe. UCA graduates work extensively in the creative industries and many have achieved international acclaim. They include film director Gareth Edwards (director of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Jurassic World Rebirth), animation artist Mark Baker (creator of Peppa Pig), illustrator Martin Handford (creator of Where’s Wally?), jewellery designer Stephen Webster and fashion designer Karen Millen. More contemporary alumni include British film director Kate Herron (director of Netflix series Sex Education), as well as Taiwanese drag queen Nymphia Wind, who in 2020 won the RuPaul’s Drag Race!
University for the Creative Arts (UCA) has three main campuses located in cities in Surrey and Kent in the south of England. With London within reach of a 30- to 60-minute train ride, students enjoy the great exposure to exhibitions and galleries in London, but without the burden of London’s cost of living!
- UCA Canterbury – Just an easy one-hour train journey from London and home to three universities, the historic city of Canterbury is a superb destination for international students! Fine Art, Architecture, Interior Design are particularly noteworthy courses in UCA Canterbury. Other visual art courses include Visual Communication, Body Art, Product Design and many more!
- UCA Epsom – Epsom is home to the Fashion school and the unique UCA Business School for the Creative Industries, which offers a range of business courses tailormade for the creative industries, such as Digital Marketing & Social Media, Event & Festivals Management, Business Management and more. Course options in Fashion include Fashion Design, Fashion Image & Styling, Fashion Photography, Make-up & Hair, as well as specialist courses like Fashion Atelier, which requires exceptional tailoring skills!
- UCA Farnham – Located in the traditional craft town of Farnham, UCA Farnham is the largest campus in terms of student population and course portfolio! These include a range of craft-based courses such as Fine Art, Ceramics & Glass, Jewellery & Silversmithing and more. There are also a wide range of visual art courses like Film Production, Animation, Digital Art, UX Design, Games Arts & Technology, Graphic Design, Illustration, as well as Music Composition & Technology and an Acting course designed for the screen. Such a wide range of courses is also why UCA Farnham is where the International Art Foundation is based – to allow students to get a taste of the widest range of specialisms!
