Rochester Independent College is an independent secondary school in the riverside town of Rochester, Southeast of England. Established as a sixth form college in 1984, the College was later expanded in 2006 to accept Year 7 students, so that students can complete the whole secondary education there. With such a unique background, Rochester Independent College comes with some marked differences with traditional boarding schools – there is no uniform, class size is extremely small (an average of 8 per class and a maximum of 12), students are also allowed to stay in their boarding house during Easter holiday and half-terms!
Currently Rochester Independent College teaches about 450 students, in which 60% are local British students. As Rochester Independent College has been the education choice of Thai scholarship students since 1991, there are always 10-20 high-achieving scholarship students sponsored by the Thai government, who are expected to make it to top universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and Imperial College!
Boarding starts at 11+ in Rochester Independent College. In addition to standard British curriculum, One-Year GCSE and One-Year A-levels are available which are suitable for Hong Kong students who have completed F.4 and F.6 respectively.
