The Read School is a small-scale “all-through” boarding school in countryside Yorkshire with 350 years of history, which is about 40-60 minutes away from Northern cities like York, Leeds and Doncaster. Currently there are about 250 in the Read School and just about 10-15 in each cohort. With a teacher:student ratio of 1:9, it allows a more personalized approach where teachers can cater more to the needs of individual students. Like many historical boarding schools, the Read School offers Combined Cadet Force (CCF) as part of its wide range of cocurricular activities. It also has its own in-house tennis academy and football academy providing advanced training to elite athletes. Notable alumni include British diplomat Leonard Appleyard (the ambassador to China during the pre-handover period of 1994-1997), British film director Jim Threapleton, etc.
