Monmouth School for Boys is the only boys boarding school in Wales with exceptional results in academic work and sports. In the four years before the pandemic (2016-2019), A*-B rates in GCE A-levels were between 65% to 76%. Professional coaches are employed to provide high standard training in a range of sports. Notable alumni include a number of UK hockey and rugby players as well as Tom Lucy, who won a silver medal for Great Britain in 2008 Olympic Games. Starting from the 2018/19 academic year, Monmouth School for Boys is formally adopting the Diamond model together with its sister school Monmouth School for Girls, in which classes in sixth form became co-educational, while boarding houses and pastoral care retained its original single-sex arrangements!
