Merchiston Castle School

Merchiston Castle School is traditional boys’ school in Scotland, with a 100-acre campus in suburban area near Edinburgh. Although a Scottish boarding school, Merchiston Castle School follows the English education system, with the vast majority of its students studying GCSE and GCE A-levels qualifications. Over the years students from Merchiston Castle School has produced exceptional track records in public exams, and the School is regarded as one of the best boarding schools in Scotland. In the five years before the pandemic (2015-2019), A*-B rates in GCE A-levels were consistently at 71% to 77%.

Rugby and Golf are two of the many sports activities where Merchiston Castle School has achieved exceptional results. In its long history, Merchiston Castle School has educated over 60 international rugby players – many of them started competing at international level while at school. Other notable alumni include John James Cowperthwaite (Financial Secretary of Hong Kong from 1961 to 1971, who introduced the free market economic policies), Gordon Roddick (founder of The Body Shop), James Craig (the first Prime Minister of Northern Ireland) and more!
