Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) Sixth Form College (Birmingham, Cambridge & London)

Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) Sixth Form College in an independent sixth form college founded in 1973, with campuses in London, Birmingham and Cambridge. MPW mainly teaches GCSE and GCE A-levels. There are also the options of 1-Year A-levels and Pre-A-levels, tailored to meet the needs of international students! Currently about 70% of students in MPW Sixth Form College are local British students. There is a tight control on class size, which won’t go beyond nine students per class. Over 40 subjects are offered in its GCE A-levels curriculum, taught by a team of teachers, 1/3 of which has a PhD! In addition to being an education provider, Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) Sixth Form College is also a book publisher with a collection of subject guides and UCAS guides (titles include Getting into Medical School, Getting into Oxford & Cambridge), providing students with useful information on higher education.

A-levels + Medical School Preparation Programme

As many studying at MPW are high-achiving students aiming to study Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine, the School has designed a special Medical Preparation Programme for them, to make sure they get the neccessary extra learning and application support alongside their A‑level courses:

• Personal statement review
• Interview practice with a real doctor
• Extra tuition to prepare for UCAT
• Lecture series that cover topics like the UK healthcare system and other medical topics

The Medical Preparation Programme at MPW has been very successful in the past. Between 2020 and 2022, a total of 93 graduates progressed Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine programmes. There were cases of Hong Kong students successfully progressing to University of Hong Kong to study Medicine.
