Seminar: An Introduction to The New Senior Form Options (Kings Education)

As University Foundation and other pathway programmes become more common, there is a growing interest among students and parents to see if these can be better options that work well with their academic pursuit, learning ability and financial planning of the family.

While traditional senior school qualifications such as GCSE and GCE A-levels still prevail, they are no longer the only way forward. University Foundation programmes now come with curriculums of different difficulties and focuses, in addition to the range of progression routes to different subjects (eg. Business, Sciences, Art & Design, etc). For example, upon completion of F.4, students now have the option of a 2-year extended foundation. Upon completion of F.5 and F.6, there are a range of options that differ in length and academic focuses (See table below for details).

Content of Seminar

In the Seminar, an admissions representative from Kings Education will provide an overview and analysis of these academic options.

• An Overview of the New Senior School Options: The admission representative will provide an overview of all these options open to F.4, F.5 and F.6 students, in which course structure, entry requirement and subsequent education options will be addressed.
• The Good and the Bad: All of these options have their own advantages and limitations. The admission representative will discuss the benefits and disadvantages of each.

During the Seminar, the admission representative will illustrate their analysis with real options from Kings Education to provide a more grounded discussion. The insights, however, are applicable to other senior school options provided by other education providers such as boarding schools, state sixth form colleges and on-campus foundation.

School Profile: Kings Education

Kings Education is an independent sixth form college with campuses in London, Bournemouth, Brighton and Oxford. Kings specializes in educating senior form students (from F.4 on), providing options such as GCSE (1-Year & 2-Year programmes), GCE A-levels (1-Year & 2-Year programmes) and university foundation (1-Year & 2-Year programmes).

With over 50 years of experience, each campus of Kings Education now teaches about 300 students. The personalized approach to education is delivered through small class teaching, with an average of 4-10 per class in GCE A-levels. As such, the University Foundation programmes in Kings also come in two tiers with different curriculums and progression routes. These include the Advanced Level Foundation that offers “guaranteed progression” to year one of an undergraduate degree in Aston University, upon achieving the specified grades in internal assessment. Students looking for more practical teaching elements, there is the Hospitality & Tourism Foundation (1-year & 2-year programmes) which includes a period of internship opportunities – a rarity in university foundation programmes!
