Located in countryside Suffolk and founded in 1878, Ipswich High School is currently undergoing a series of reforms, where it became co-educational under the diamond model starting from 2018/19 and in 2019/20 it will open its boarding house for international students. Under the diamond model, boys and girls in Ipswich High School will join separate classes at Year 4 and below. Integration will be phased in, starting from Year 5 where boys and girls will be taught in separate classes in core subjects (ie. Mathematics, English, Sciences and Physical Education), but participate in extracurricular activities together. It’s only in sixth form that Ipswich High School will become fully co-educational in the traditional sense, so that students enjoy the benefits of both single-sex and nixed-sex education.
