Hurtwood House is a top Sixth Form boarding school in Surrey, renowned for its exceptional standard in visual and performing arts education, with around 40% of graduates progressing to creative and arts degree programmes every year! Drama is widely regarded as the school’s strongest area, housing one of the largest school drama departments in the UK. Its annual Christmas musical is a flagship production that commands a £100,000 budget, running for 10 shows and providing students with a production and stage experience on par with London’s West End.
Hurtwood House offers A-levels, as well as a One-year GCSE programme, and allows students to focus entirely on visual and performing arts for all three of their A-level subjects. Drama & Theatre Studies, Media Studies, Art & Design, Mathematics and Business Studies are among the most popular ones, with students consistently achieving outstanding results. Popular university destinations include University College London (UCL), University of Exeter, University of the Arts London (UAL), Met Film School, etc. Graduates have also gone on to world-famous music and performing arts schools such as Berklee College of Music, Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance and many more!
Notable alumni include Oscar-winning film composer Hans Zimmer (OSCAR wins include The Lion King and Dune), acclaimed actress Emily Blunt (recent works include The Devil Wears Prada), Hollywood-based cinematographer Arden Tse (recent works include music videos of Hong Kong popstars Joey Yung and Gin Lee), as well as many British film and theatre actors and actresses.
