Located in Somerset, the south west of England, Downside School is one of the few co-educational Catholic boarding schools in the UK, with a large population of boarders and over 400 years of history. Surrounded by peaceful green space, its 500-acre campus is situated in rural area near the UNESCO World Heritage Centre of Bath and the great city of Bristol, which is also home to the stunning Downside Abbey Church – and the School was selected as one of the ten most beautiful schools in the UK by the Telegraph (2015).
Downside School has been rapidly developing its STEM curriculum in the past few years – which, quite different from the usual ICT curriculum, aims to go deeper into the fundamentals of computing where students will learn to code and truly learn how computers operate. Downside School has a consistent track record of outstanding public exam results. In the five years before the pandemic (2015-2019), A*-B rates in A-levels were in the 61% to 79% range, while 66% of entries were rated A*-B in 2023. Throughout its long history, Downside School has educated a good number of notable alumni in Britain’s politics and business sector, which also include Alistair Asprey the former Secretary for Security of Hong Kong.
