Type: Independent Sixth Form College & Language School
Target: F.5 or above
Location: British United
GCSE A-levels University Foundation
- 2-Year Programme 1-Year Programme

BELL is a sixth form college and English school based mainly in London and Cambridge, with over 60 years of experience delivering English courses. Its outstanding provision of language tuition has made it a British Council-accredited English school over 30 years ago. In a recent inspection report (2015), BELL’s commitment to quality was once again recognized by the outstanding rating for teaching quality. As the School expands, BELL has added GCE A-levels and University Foundation programmes to its course portfolio – both of which welcome applications from F.5 students from Hong Kong.

GCE A-levels

GCE A-levels is reintroduced into BELL’s sixth form curriculum in the 2017/18 academic year. Taught in the Cambridge campus, the GCE A-levels programmes will be delivered in small classes of no more than 10 students and offer subject choices of Business Studies, Economics, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Sociology, Physics, Biology and Chemistry. Students will also take the Academic Skills module (five hours per week), which covers study skills and English language tuition and is intended to equip students with the necessary study and language skills to cope with the demand of the GCE A-levels curriculum and the university life ahead.

University Foundation

With academic staff from the University of Essex as external examiners, the quality of the University Foundation at BELL is well monitored. The Programmes start every September and January. Class size is tightly controlled at 12 students per class, which is much lower than what you’d find in many on-campus foundation programmes! Another advantage of the University Foundation at BELL is the Academic Skills module that combines study skills and English language tuition. Taking over nearly half of weekly teaching hours, the Academic Module is designed to improve the way students learn, express and apply knowledge.

Students can choose from four academic pathways, which are Business, Humanities, Science and Law, to make sure they have the right knowledge and skills for their target degree programmes. The University Foundation is recognized by BELL’s network of 25 university partners, which include Essex, Lancaster, Leicester, Queen’s Belfast, Reading and more. High-achievers are encouraged to apply to universities beyond Bell’s network. In the past, these high-achieving students have been admitted to universities such as City, East Anglia, Royal Holloway, SOAS, Sussex and more!

English Courses: Holiday Course & Study Tour (available during Summer, Easter and Christmas holiday), IELTS Preparation and Teaching Training

Short courses are where Bell’s teaching experience is the richest and offers an impressive range of options. These include Holiday Courses & Study Tours suitable for students aged 7-17, IELTS Preparation for secondary school and university students, as well as Teaching Training programmes for professional teachers and other options for adult learners. Courses can last for one week to a year with flexible start dates, from which students and adult learners are likely to find an option that works for their holiday arrangement and learning needs!
