Abbotsholme School

Abbotsholme School is a boarding and day school near the town of Rocester in Derbyshire – small in student population, but with a gigantic 140-acre campus! Admissions are largely non-selective and there is a strong emphasis on helping students improve academically at their own pace, while offering a distinctive education enriched by outdoor learning opportunities. Abbotsholme School features its own working farm and a British Horse Society-accredited equine centre. All students are encouraged to take part in the daily running of the farm, caring for horses, sheep and other small animals – an experience that nurtures responsibility, compassion and practical skills, particularly valuable to students aspiring to study Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science!

According to recent leaver’s statistics (2023 & 2024), some students have progressed to Harper Adams University to study Agricultural Studies, while many went onto Russell Group and other specialist universities, studying a diverse range of subjects that include Economics, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering and Criminology. Impressively, one student has also made it back to University of Hong Kong!

VetPath Summer School: Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science Programme

Making full use of its school farm and equine centre, Abbotsholme School runs the VetPath Summer School: Veterinary Medicine & Animal Science Programme during the summer holidays. During the two-week residential course, students will be actively involved in the daily running of the farm, caring for animals and will also take part in job shadowing with veterinary and animal care professionals. These learning activities include clinical workshops, animal handling sessions, as well as live case discussions based on real scenarios. On top of these, the programmes also comes with a vet school preparation masterclass, helping students gain early insight into the admissions process and strengthen their future applications.

In-House Football Academy

In the 2025/26 academic year, Abbotsholme School launched its own Football Academy in partnership with the Institute of Football Academy (IOF) – a professional football training organisation with over 25 years of experience and 108 players signed to professional clubs! The programme is open to students aged 10 to 19 and offers professional-level training alongside their academic studies.
