Seminar: The Art Disciplines Explained

Take any prospectus of any art school in the world – animation, fine art, fashion, graphic communication, photography, 3D design – you will find that what we usually simply call the arts are actually finely divided into different disciplines. Students are usually presented with more than 10-20 options and decision making is sometimes made difficult. What’s the difference between graphic design, illustration and visual communication? Where is the thin line that differentiates cinematic arts, broadcasting and fine art video? How will the choice between textile, fashion marketing and fashion design affect your career?

In the Seminar, Ms. Miriam Rowe, the representative from Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts, will start from the modules in art foundation programmes – visual studies, contextual analysis, life drawing – and go all the way through disciplines such as fine art, photography, applied craft, graphic design & illustration, fashion, moving image, 3D design as well as theatre arts. For each of these disciplines, Miriam will explain their typical course content and give advices on further studies and careers. The Seminar is suitable for students at F.4 level or above.
