Seminar: UCAS & Expert Tips on Getting into a Top University

When applying to undergraduate programmes in UK universities, some universities will require applicants to submit their applications via the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) in the UK. In the seminar, representative from Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) Sixth Form College will explain everything you need to know about UCAS and provide expert tips on getting in to a top university:

• Application Documents: Internal and public exam results, Reference letters, Personal Statement
• Personal Statement: What makes a good Personal Statement? Who will be reading your Personal Statement? What are they looking for in a Personal Statement so that they know you are a suitable candidate?
• The Mechanism of UCAS: How many programme(s) can you choose? Do they have to be in the same academic discipline? Will it be too late, if you apply during Clearing?
• Important Dates: Deadline for Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine? Deadline for first and second round allocation? When will you know if you’re issued a conditional offer?

Speaker’s Profile: Dr. Sean Buckley

Dr. Sean Buckley is MPW’s Head of EAL and Programme Director of the University of London International Foundation Programme. He has authored the Getting into Oxford and Cambridge application guide, which was published by MPW itself. With his in-depth knowledge of UCAS, he will also share his experience in helping students get into competitive programmes and universities.

Mander Portman Woodward (MPW)

Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) in an independent sixth form college founded in 1973, with campuses in London, Birmingham and Cambridge. International students can join the College, doing GCSE and GCE A-levels. There are also the options of 1-Year A-levels and Pre-A-levels tailored to meet the needs of international students. 75% of students in Mander Portman Woodward (MPW) are local British students. There is a tight control on class size which won’t go beyond eight and over 40 subjects are offered. A*-B rate in GCE A-levels is about 83% in 2014.
