UK Independent Day School Admissions Talk by Cognita Schools & Brighton College Prep Kensington
With the introduction of the Hong Kong BN(O) Visa, more Hong Kong families are considering relocating to the UK. When financial circumstances allow, many families would consider sending their kids to independent day schools for better academic performance and pastoral care. Together with Lois Gaffney (Head of Brighton College Prep Kensington), admissions representatives from Cognita Schools will provide an overview about indepedent day schools for prospective students and parents:
- How to Choose the Right Indepedent Day School? Do ages really play such a big role? Does the concept of “Catchement Area” apply to independent schools? What modes of transport do students typically use when they go to school? How much should parents budget for sending students to independent schools?
- The Advantages of Independent Schools: Why do many parents (especially during the first years and public exam years) consider sending their kids to independent schools?
- School Network: In the UK, Cognita Schools runs over 30 independent schools, many of which are in London, Surrey and other places in the south of England, which could be good options for BN(O) families. Neil and Amy will show you where these schools are and provide a brief overview about them!
- Overview of the School: Why does Brighton College set up a new school at the heart of London? Apart from the big question, the Head will also covering practical information like curriculum, teaching staff, campus location and facilities, fees, etc
- Admission Tips: Although 2023/24 is only Brighton College Prep Kensington’s first cohort, they’re already receiving very strong interest from local families. When it comes to admissions, what do the School expect from prospective students? At the moment, which year groups comes with more vacancies?
- Progressing to Senior School: What’s the arrangement when it’s time to move on to a senior school – ideally Brighton College?

Brighton College Prep Kensington is a joint-venture between Cognita Schools – a global independent schools group – and top boarding school Brighton College. With the first cohort set to start in 2023/24, Brighton College Prep Kensington will provide nursery to Year 8 in its campus in South Kensington, London – which is just across the corner from Imperial College London and Natural History Museum.
Brighton College Prep Kensington is a new development between two groups after the successful establishment of Brighton College Singapore.

Global independent schools group Cognita Schools owns a global network of 100+ independent schools, including Stamford American School and Woodland Pre-Schools in Hong Kong, as well as Brighton College Prep Kensington – a new joint-venture with top boarding school Brighton College, which is set open in 2023/24.
In the UK, Cognita Schools runs over 30 independent schools, many of which are in London, Surrey and other places in the south of England, which could be good options for BN(O) families. Class size is kept small in Cognita Schools, with an average of 15 students a class. This will gradually go down to about 10 a class during GCSE years and five during A-level years. To support migrant and expat families, Cognita Schools allow students to start school during term time (instead of asking students to wait until the start of next term), to minimize disruption to learning.
