In this seminar, Coventry University will join force with Virgin Atlantic to provide a deeper look into the Aviation industry and the subject of Aviation Management. And hopefully students will discover some good career options in an industry that they like!

Understanding the Aviation Industry

In the first part of the seminar, Virgin Atlantic will provide an overview of the Aviation industry from an industry point of view.

Virgin Atlantic will show you how an airline company actually works by sharing their organizational structure, routes and network, aircrafts and fleets, and commercial strategies.

What does an airline consider when operating a route? Apart from passenger flights, what other services does an airline offer? How does an airline maintain their competitiveness? Apart from pilots, cabin crew and ground staff, what other positions do airlines require?

In the second part, two academics from the Department of Aviation Management of Coventry University will expand the discussion from a more academic and marco perspective:

  • Other Players in the Aviation Industry: Regulators, airports, aircraft manufacturers, aircraft maintenance companies, as well as tourism development, catering & hospitality, travel agents and ticketing websites are all part of the Aviation industry. In academic terms, it’s an sophisticated industry that requires knowledge in Business, Engineering, Hospitality & Tourism and many other disciplines. So what areas will an Aviation Management programme cover?
  • What will you learn from a Aviation Management programme: Aviation Management is applied business degree tailormade for the Aviation industry. What specialist knowledge will the progammes cover? What common business knowledge will it cover too?
