Back pain and similar spine-related conditions are common among students, working adults and the elderly. Prolonged use of smartphones and computers and bad sitting posture may have worsened the conditions. When looking for treatments, many would have considered the chiropractors, who offer treatments without the uses of injection, surgery and prescription of medicine, instead put an emphasis of treatment through manual adjustment and manipulation of the spine.

In Hong Kong, chiropractor is a profession recognized and monitored by law. It holds a unique position in the heath care system which has different works and duties from doctors and physiotherapists. On an international level, World Health Organization (WHO) accepted the application of World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) in 1997 and published the “WHO Guidelines on Basic Training and Safety in Chiropractic” in 2005 in recognition of chiropractic as a common and effective treatment.

Registered chiropractors in Hong Kong must hold a qualification accepted by Hong Kong’s Chiropractors Council. Since local universities and institutions do not offer Chiropractic programmes, all practicing chiropractors have completed their degree overseas (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and others).

With Chiropractic qualifications obtained in the UK that are accredited by the European Council on Chiropractic Education (ECCE), graduates can directly register with the Chiropractors Council without taking any conversion examinations. Starting monthly salary for fresh graduates is around HK$30,000.

The seminar will be held by Dr Eric Chu, a registered chiropractor in Hong Kong, and Kirstie Yeung, admissions representative of BPP University. They will be happy to meet with students and parents to answer questions related to chiropractic studies and practices.

• The Chiropractor Profession (Presented by Dr Eric Chu)
  Dr. Chu will share information on the chiropractic profession, including topics such as the history of chiropractic, their daily works, area of specialization, profession prospect as well as the differences between chiropractor and physiotherapist.
• Chiropractic Programmes in BPP (Presented by Kirstie Yeung)
  Kirstie will introduce the McTimoney College of Chiropractic, BPP University and the Master in Chiropractic (MChiro) programmes, covering course structure, professional qualifications and registration, clinical training, entry requirements, scholarship and so on.

Found in 1972, the McTimoney College of Chiropractic is a chiropractic college located in Abingdon, Oxfordshire, South East of England. It joined BPP University in 2012 and the Master in Chiropratic (MChiro) is now awarded by BPP University. It is now one of the three UK chiropractic colleges that offer ECCE-accredited Chiropractic programmes (4-Year MChiro).

While a chiropractic college, McTimoney College of Chiropractic is also a chiropractic clinic that serves patients in the community. Students can manage their own list of patients under supervision by professors and gain actual clinical experience.
