Pathway Programmes: Glasgow (12), York (15), Bristol (16), Birmingham (22), Liverpool (29), Nottingham (32), etc

University Pathway Programmes (Foundation & International Year One) are one-year programmes that allow students to progress onto year 1 and year 2 of an undergraduate programme in the UK. Many of these programmes are taught in dedicated teaching centres within university campuses and provide “guaranteed progression” to an undergraduate degree upon achieving the required grades in internal exams and coursework assessment.

University of Glasgow (12)

Ranked the 78^th globally (QS 2025) and the 12^th in the UK, University of Glasgow is one of the oldest universities in the English-speaking world with 570 years of history. As a member of the Russell Group, the university offers a wide range of academic disciplines and research, in which as many as 30 are ranked with top 10 in the UK. Education, Law, Sociology, Accounting & Finance, Civil Engineering, Medicine and Dentistry are some of its strongest areas. Notable alumni include economist Adam Smith, two former British Prime Ministers, a number of Nobel laureates and Regina Ip (former Secretary for Security of Hong Kong).

University of York (15)

University of York enjoys worldwide recognition and is now ranked the 147^th globally (THE 2024) and the 15^th in the UK. With a strong focus on the humanities, social science and sciences, York is a research-intensive university and a member of the Russell Group, which symbolises the highest research and academic standard in the UK. Overall research quality was ranked within top 10 in the UK by the latest research assessment exercise (REF 2021). Its English, Law, Politics, Psychology, Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Criminology, Archaeology & Forensic Science are ranked among UK’s top 15. In slightly over 50 years’ time since its establishment, alumni of University of York has became active players in British politics and include many notable people in areas such as literature, history, music, etc. Notable alumni from Asia include Yeung Sum (former LegCo member of Hong Kong) as well as Han Seung Soo (former Prime Minister of South Korea).

University of Bristol (16)

Ranked the 55^th globally (QS 2024) and the 16^th in the UK, also a Russell Group university, University of Bristol is a top research-intensive university located in the creative city of Bristol. As part of what reflects the good reputation of the University among middle-class families, about 40% of students of University of Bristol came from an independent school background, which is the fourth highest ratio, only after University of Cambridge, Oxford and St Andrew’s. Notable alumni include singer-songwriter James Blunt, as well as Hong Kong alumni such as LegCo member Alvin Yeung Ngok-Kiu and news reporter Kenneth Ng King-Chun.

University of Bristol is ranked within top 10 in as many as 21 academic disciplines, which include highly popular courses such as Engineering, Law, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, as well as Computer Science, Psychology, Geography & International Development, Politics, Sociology and Social Policy.

University of Bristol is one of the few universities that offer a “conversion” master’s degree in Computer Science (which accepts graduates from other disciplines), as well as a Vet Nursing programme in undergraduate level.

University of Birmingham (22)

University of Birmingham is a historical and research-intensive university, which is now ranked the 80^th globally (QS 2025) and the 22^nd in the UK. The University enjoys very good reputation in the academia globally and is a founding member of the Russell Group, which symbolizes the highest standard of research and teaching in the UK. The University of Birmingham is ranked within top 10 in the UK for 22 academic disciplines, including Hospitality & Tourism, Physiotherapy, Philosophy, Creative Writing, Economics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and many more! Its alumni and staff include 11 Nobel laureates, as well as Geoffrey Ma, the Hong Kong Chief Justice of the Court of Final Appeal.

University of Nottingham (32)

University of Nottingham is ranked the 108^th globally (QS 2025) and a member of the Russel Group. For many years It has been named one of the top 3 universities most targetted by UK’s top employers. 51 academic disciplines are offered. 15 of them are ranked among top 10 in the UK – including Architecture, Building & Surveying, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science, American Studies and Electrical & Electronic Engineering. The university also offers a 5-year Pharmacy (MPharm) programme, so that students do not have to worry about visa issues during their Pre-Registration Training for Pharmacists.

Nottingham Trent University (43)

Nottingham Trent University is a post-1992 university located in the vibrant Midlands city of Nottingham. Today the University is one of the UK’s largest and most popular institutions and is home to students and staff from over 160 countries. In the past few years, the University has very successfully improved graduate employability by emphasizing work experience opportunities and is now in the UK’s top ten for the number of students undertaking year-long work placements.

After originally being established as the Nottingham Government School of Design in 1843, Nottingham Trent University is famous for it’s Art & Design programmes and offers an extensive portfolio of courses in this field. In addition to popular Art & Design courses such as Architecture, Fashion Design, Illustration and Animation, you will also find specialist programmes normally only offered by in large-scale art schools. These include Costume Design & Construction, Design for Film & Television, Fashion Knitwear & Knitted Textiles, Furniture & Product Design and more.

University of Essex (56)

As one of the best in Social Sciences, University of Essex is ranked the 56^th in the UK. Researches in Politics, Economics, Psychology and Sociology are all highly rated by REF (2021). Respectively 98%, 97%, 89% and 88% of researches in these disciplines were rated World Leading and Internationally Excellent – a very impressive achievement for a university with only 50 years of history. Today University of Essex is also one of the 18 Q-Step Centres for Quantitative Social Science Education in the UK, in which students can learn quantitative research skills (such as running large-scale polls, the use of statistical software such as SPSS, AMOSS and more) through elective modules. A number of professors in the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Hong Kong are graduates of University of Essex. Other notable alumni include LegCo members LEUNG Yiu-chung and British film director Mike Leigh.

University of the West of England, Bristol (72)

Set in the creative city of Bristol, University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) was formerly a polytechnic and was granted full university status in 1992. Employability remains at the heart of UWE Bristol’s education. The already tight relationships with employers continue to foster, which now include formal links with the BBC, Airbus, etc.

UWE Bristol provides academic programmes in as many as 38 disciplines, among which Building & Surveying, Architecture, Town Planning and Art & Design are the strongest. Medical-related subjects like Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Nursing are all open to international students.

UWE’s Bristol School of Animation enjoys a worldwide reputation. Chris Ford, creative director of PIXAR, is also one of UWE Bristol’s graduates!
