The Reputation Trap: How to choose the right art school for yourself

The Reputation Trap: How to choose the right art school for yourself

Type: Seminar (Art & Design)
Target: F.4 or above
Location: British United

It covers a range of different art disciplines under the umbrella of art & design, ranging from fashion, jewellery and graphics design to fine art, animation, films and more! While they share some artistic languages, aesthetics and standards come in different shapes in each of their own field, and these are hardly reflected in an art school’s reputation and ranking. Art schools that thrive in fashion design might not educate Oscar-winning animators, or interesting artists like Damien Hirst. And in films, jewellery design and the others, they have their top schools.

So how do you choose? In the seminar, Ms. Miriam Rowe – representative from CSVPA and also a jewellery designer – will introduce some top art schools in each of these art disciplines. She will also briefly talk about usual course content, as well as requirement on portfolio and admission.

Miriam Rowe has trained in jewellery and metalworking techniques at universities in the United States, United Kingdom, and Italy. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Jewellery and Metalworking from the University of Georgia, she went on to graduate with a Master’s Degree from the School of Jewellery at Birmingham Institute of Art and Design (BIAD). Her collections of Art Jewellery have been exhibited at venues in Belgium, the United States, Italy, and the United Kingdom, including shows at the Society of North American Goldsmiths, the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists, and the Tate Liverpool Gallery.
