Specializing in Textile Design, Makeba receives her BA and MA from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London and Royal College of Art, and also teaches Woven Textile Design at Central Saint Martins. She has extensive experience in her creative practice, art education and academic research, and has work held in the Textiles and Fashion Collection in the Victoria & Albert Museum! In student recruitment, Makeba is responsible for interviewing and advising international students for all UAL Colleges and subjects.

What exactly is Fine Art? As modern and contemporary art develop, Fine Art is no longer just about traditional mediums like Drawing, Painting and Sculpture, but also could cover Installation, Photography or even Digital and Computational Arts. Work of fine art artists and students are often abstract in form and versatile in expression, which makes things even more confusing to students and parents.

In this Seminar, Makeba Lewis, International Academic Coordinator from University of the Arts London (UAL) will provide a subject overview of Fine Art, to help students and parents understand the subject a little bit more and help students choose the right path!

• A Subject Overview of Fine Art: Instead of defining Fine Art in terms of form and medium, is it more of a spirit and approach to artistic pursuit? Do Fine Art students usually need to have a better understanding of art history and art theories?
• Programme Introduction & Comparison: How is it different when Photography and Digital/Computational Arts are approached in the spirit of Fine Art? What’s special about the Fine Art: Photography and Fine Art: Digital/Computational Arts programmes, when compared to other programmes in similar disciplines?
