Virtual Personal Statement Writing Workshop

Virtual Personal Statement Writing Workshop

Type: Virtual Academic Workshop
Target: F.5 or Above
Location: British United / Watch from Home

When students apply to universities through UCAS, they must provide a Personal Statement 🔍 as part of their application. The Personal Statement explains their aspiration and other personality traits and is a crucial part of the application – sometimes more important than your predicted grades, extracurricular activities and other learning experience! When done well, the Personal Statement can help you stand out from applicants from around the world.

Problem is, what makes a good Personal Statement? Who will be reviewing your Personal Statement – Or is it still a real person newadays? What are they looking for in a Personal Statement so that they know you are a suitable candidate? How should you present yourself within the 4000 characters allowed?

🔍 Starting from the 2026/27 academic year, the Personal Statement will be replaced by three Structured Questions, to help students provide the right content for their application. While format is changed, content remains largely similar. The tips and skills covered in the workshop will therefore still be relevant for students planning to applying to the September/2026 intake!

Details of the Workshop

James Lavender

Course Facilitator Joining us virtually

Founder & Director of Hurdlers’ Education. First-class B.A degree in English Literature from University College London (UCL)

The workshop will be delivered by James Lavender, founder & director of online tutorial school Hurdlers’ Education. James will share their tips and strategies when they assist students in their application to G5 universities, medical schools and other highly competitive subjects. He will run through how to best structure a Personal Statement to demonstrate personal development across different paragraphs, and suggest some suitable higher-level language to use in each section. With a much better understanding of how to differentiate themselves, your new Personal Statements should read more like something a native British student might write!
