In the seminar, Amy Davies (Associate Head, School of Arts & Creative Industries) and her Curriculum Lead colleagues from Coventry University will introduce all the basics of art portfolios, provide examples and share what expectation art schools have in their students.
- The Basics of Art Portfolio: The sketchbook, How many pieces of work should you include? What kind of work can you include?
- Specific portfolio requirement for different art disciplines
- Examples of outstanding Art Portfolios from the past
Portfolio Advice & Assessment
After the Seminar, students with their portfolio are welcome to meet with the speakers for admission interviews and portfolio assessments. It doesn’t matter if students don’t have a complete portfolio yet – you are welcome to show the academics your existing artwork, so that you can learn what to include and find out which subject areas might be more suitable for you!

Now called the School of Arts & Creative Industries, the Art & Design department in Coventry University is an art school with over 160 years of history and a very good reputation in the UK. Its wide-ranging course portfolio covers Fine Art, Fashion Design, Graphic Design & Illustration, Product Design, Architecture & Interior Design, Digital Media, Film & Photography and more. Its Automotive & Transport Design programme is voted the best in the world by World Automotive Design Competition, and has industry links with leading manufacturers headquartered in the UK (or with production lines in the UK), including Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, Aston Martin and Bentley & Rolls Royce. Apart from learning to design cars and vehicles, students might also work on bicycle and yacht design, which is particularly noteworthy for students who are interest in Product Design but prefer a more specific area of focus! In other areas, Interior Design students from Coventry University are recently invited by french sportswear brand VEJA, to provide store design concepts and proposals.
Art & Design graduates from Coventry University have achieved remarkable success in the art and cultural circles. They include Kevin de la Noy (movie producer of Batman: The Dark Knight), Christopher Townsend (production VFX supervisor of Captain Marvel), David Imai (former Director of Design of Tesla), to just name a few!
