Seminar: The London (dis)Advantages as a Student City

Type: Admissions Seminar
Target: F.3 or above (Seminar)
Location: British United

For many travelers from Hong Kong, London is a must-go. When considered as a study destination, many worry about its cost of living and vibrant city life. So are what London has to offer worth the price? Why is London still voted the 5th best student city in the world despite all these drawbacks?

Content of the Seminar

  • The London Advantages: London is home to many top universities (such as UCL, LSE and Imperial College) and attracts world-famous scholars. Museums in London own some of the world’s greatest collection, which are good learning resources for students (they’re also free-of-charge by the way!). Many transnational corporates chose to headquarter in London, providing tons of work and placement opportunities. But there still more to London than these – and we will tell you one by one in the seminar!
  • The Disadvantages: Like many great cities, London has a great-city cost of living. But it is not prohibitively expensive and there are ways that you can live comfortably in London without spending a fortune.
  • ONCAMPUS – University of London’s Pathway Programmes: These one-year programmes are based in Birkbeck, University of London and can lead to undergraduate degrees in seven of University of London colleges. With advantageous location in the heart of academic London, you will be accompanied by regular lectures in top London colleges such as LSE and UCL, providing extraordinary learning opportunities to learn from some of the world’s best scholars.
  • LSE Progression from University of London International Foundation Programme (2015)

  • Subjects in Focus: Media & Communication and Psychology
Some subjects can leverage the London advantages best. This time, we will focus on Media & Communication and Psychology.

The Speaker: Matt Dean, Deputy Director Student Recruitment from ONCAMPUS

Matt moved to Hong Kong just last year. Before that, he has worked and lived in London for years. His experience working in Birkbeck, University of London made him an expert of academic London. He will share some insider’s knowledge of London with us in the seminar and will be happy to answer questions from students and parents about London and the University of London.
