UK education options for Degree Graduates
Postgraduate degrees in the UK have always been a popular choice among Hong Kong bachelor’s degree holders and working adults as a mean to gain overseas exposure and relevant experiences! Generally speaking, most programmes in master’s level could be finished in 12 months due to their condensed course structure. Degree holders from a Hong Kong or a UK university, who have a good degree classification, can apply directly to Taught Postgraduate programmes, while graduates who fall short of the English or academic requirements will have to go through a Pre-Master’s. For graduates who are considering a career change, Postgraduate (Conversion) programmes will enable them to obtain professional qualifications in a shorter period than completing a full 3-year undergraduate degree.
Apart from a handful of professional degrees, the course duration of most master’s programmes is 12 months – starting from late September to early October, and last till the following August. Holders of a second-upper class (or 2:1 in the UK) honours bachelor’s degree will usually be admitted into a taught postgraduate programmes in the same academic discipline in UK’s Top 50 universities.
A very good option for graduates who are considering a career change! Most Postgraduate (Conversion) last for one to two years, which is significantly shorter than doing another 3-year bachelor’s degree from scratch. Upon completion of the postgraduate conversion degree, students will be able to fulfill certain academic requirements in their selected profession, enabling them to obtain the required professional recognition through registration or further examinations.
For bachelor’s degree graduates, who fall short of the English or academic requirements of their desired master’s degrees, doing a Pre-Master’s can help bridge the gap. For sub-degree graduates who have good grades and certain work experience, doing a Pre-Master’s will enable them to enter a master’s degree, skipping the undergraduate qualification.
