由於整體排名以英國大學所有科目的整體表現為依據，有時候未必反映部份大學在個別學科上的優勢；不少在個別範疇上有領導地位的大學，不一定在整體大學排名中擁有較前位置。這個現象在物理治療、放射學、藥劑系、食品科學、建造工程及測量學、物業管理、城市規劃、社工系、旅遊及酒店管理等應用性較高的學科尤其明顯！學生及家長宜同時參考學系排名，以便作出更全面的選校決定。
