All students are required to present an art portfolio when they apply for an art & design programme. What makes a good portfolio? What kinds of works should be included and what shouldn’t? How should you present your portfolio? Should you write an explanation or let the work speak for itself?

In the seminar, Rachel Burlington, Head of Art & Design for Extended Diploma & Foundation from Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA), will introduce all the basics of art portfolios, provide examples and share what expectation art schools have in their students.

  • The Basics of Art Portfolio: The sketchbook, How many pieces of work should you include? What kind of work can you include?
  • Specific portfolio requirement for different art disciplines
  • Examples of outstanding Art Portfolios from the past

Details of Event: Can I Meet with the Admissions Representative for Portfolio Assessment and Interview?

After the Seminar, students with their portfolio are welcome to meet with Peter for admission interviews and portfolio assessments. It doesn’t matter if students don’t have a complete portfolio yet – you are welcome to show the lecturer your existing artwork, so that you can learn what to include and find out which subject areas might be more suitable for you!

Every student enjoys dedicated working space and an iMac computer of their own, which opens 7 days a week, allowing students to work on their pieces whenever their inspiration arrives. What’s more? Students are guaranteed the chance to participate in the annual End-of-Year shows in Cambridge and London, which have in the past received material sponsors from world-famous fashion brands such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Vivienne Westwood, Valentino, Burberry and more!

With growing reputation and industry links, Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) has over the years expanded its provision to offer undergraduate and postgraduate courses (awarded by Falmouth University). Joining force with fashion magazine publisher HEARST since 2016, Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) runs a specalist master’s degree, in which students will enjoy placement opportunities in fashion magazines including Elle and Bazaar!

The art foundation at Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) is awarded by the University of the Arts London Awarding Body and is a specially designed programme aiming to prepare students for top art schools.

Years after years Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts (CSVPA) has produced some very impression records of student progression. In the past 11 cohorts (2012-2022), at least 272 graduates made it to University of the Arts London (UAL) including Central St Martins, one of its most famous colleges, while others went on to study at other famous art schools in the UK and Europe such as Glasgow School of Art, Goldsmiths, Kingston and Istituto Marangoni.
