Anglia Ruskin University

With main campuses in the city of Cambridge and the town of Chelmsford (just 30 minutes from Cambridge by train), Anglia Ruskin University is a former polytechnic that was granted full university status in 1992. First established as an art school, it has a history that can be traced back to 1858. Today Anglia Ruskin University is firmly within the world’s best 350 universities (THE 2016-2022), and in 2018/19 also established its own medical school, building on its successful health and social care courses! In terms of programme choices, Optometry, Nursing, Art & Design, Sport Sciences, Surveying are among the more popular by Hong Kong and Asian students.

BOptom (Hons) Optometry

Accredited by the General Optical Council (GOC), the BOptom (Hons) Optometry in Anglia Ruskin University is recognized by the Optometrists Board of Hong Kong. Students therefore will be eligible in registering as an Optometrist in Hong Kong, after successful completion of the professional examination set by the College of Optometrists (UK) and a year of work placement. During their studies, students will learn to perform eye examinations, acquire knowledge of ocular diseases and pathology. In Year 3, students will spend up to 6 hours per week gaining hands-on experience in the open-to-public University Eye Clinic, performing eye examinations and dispensing patients with appropriate spectacles when required.
