How do you become a Registered Nurse in the UK?
The Nursing profession in the UK is divided into Adult Nursing, Children’s Nursing and Mental Health Nursing. Students are required to complete an approved degree programme, before they can register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a registered nurse. In this section, the speakers will provide an overview of the Nursing profession, introducing the professional divisions in nursing, professional responsibilities and ethics, day-to-day works of a nurse, as well as common teaching modules and opportunities in clinical placement during your studies.
Clinical Placement: How does it actually work?
The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) requires that students complete a minimum of 2,300 hours of Clinical Placement as part of their training. These Clinical Placement usually take place in public hospital settings under local NHS Trusts. How does the arrangement actually work? In which semester do these placements usually happen? Do students still need to attend classes when they’re doing their placement? How would the transport and accommodaiton be arranged during placement?
Working in the UK after graduation: A shortage occupation
Nurses is currently one of UK’s shortage occupations. Employment prospect of nursing graduates is therefore extremely well! In BPP University, employment rate is as high as 100%! In this section, the speakers will provide insight on the possibility for international students to work in the UK. The speakers will provide an overview of the employment prospects of her Nursing students and also introduce the career support services available in the University.
Coming back to Hong Kong to practise: How do you become a Registered Nurse in Hong Kong?
UK-registered nurses are eligible to sit the Nursing Council Licensing Examination in Hong Kong. Students can become a registered nurse after they’ve successfully passed the licensing exam. However, the highly fluctuating pass rates of the licensing exam do mean that it’s not an easy exam to pass! In this section, we will share more statistics about the licensing exam, so that students and parents will have a better understanding about coming back to Hong Kong to practise as a nurse.
Programme introduction:
Nursing is available in BPP University in two main undegraduate programmes which are suitable for HKDSE, GCE A-levels and IB graduates. The speakers will provide an overview about these programmes, covering areas such as course structure, entry & interview arrangements (What can you do if you didn’t study Biology in school?), exams & other assessments, etc.
