Studying GCE A-levels in a State Sixth Form College is the cheapest option in sixth-form, where tuition and accommodation expenses can start at around HKD$170,000 every year. The GCE A-levels qualifications also have the advantage, which reserves the possibility for students to apply to universities in Hong Kong via the Non-Jupas route. If the Non-Jupas application were successful, your overall education expenses would be much smaller than studying in a university in the UK!

In the seminar, John Leggott College will introduce you aspects of the study life in a state sixth form college, while British United will complement the discussion with an analysis of Admission Data via the Non-Jupas route:

Leon Riley Joining us in person!

Principal

  • Study Life in a State Sixth-Form College: Leon Riley, Principal of John Leggott College, will introduce you the typical study life in a State Sixth-Form College, covering issues such as teaching quality, facilities, subject choices in GCE A-levels, entry requirement and university destination of past students.
  • Admission Data Analysis of Non-Jupas Route (Hong Kong): Based on admission data of local universities of the past few years, British United will show you how big a chance you have in securing a place via the Non-Jupas route. It turns out that a huge difference exists in different academic disciplines!

Located in Scunthorpe, a small town in the North of England, John Leggott College is consistently one of Britain’s top 25-50 state sixth form colleges in terms of GCE A-levels results and has always been a popular choice among Hong Kong students. Our students have provided very positive feedback and succeeded in applying for top universities in the UK and in Hong Kong. Currently there are about 1600 students in John Leggott College, in which only 70 are international students.

The 33rd Best Performing State Sixth Form College (Sunday Times 2022)

As state colleges operate with government funding, they are usually restricted from being too selective when setting their entry requirement, to make sure the education needs of local students of different abilities and from different background are well taken care of. In the three years before the pandemic (2017-2019), John Leggott College was ranked among top 25-50 for A-levels results. In 2022, it’s ranked the 33rd among over 100 state sixth form colleges in the UK in the Sunday Times league table.

University Destinations: Cases of Hong Kong University Admissions

International students in John Leggott College have consistently achieved outstanding results. In 2021, 85% of international students were awarded A*-B and 70% awarded A*-A, with 80% progressing onto research-intensive Russell Group universities. With the good support provided by John Leggott College, many students were successful in their applications to universities in Hong Kong via the Non-JUPAS route. Within the period of 2011 to 2021, there were successful cases every year, with students gaining entry into HKU, CUHK, HKUST and CityU.
