In the Seminar, Mrs Sally Morey (Senior Lecturer from Oxford School of Nursing & Midwifery) will introduce the Nursing programmes in Oxford Brookes University, covering areas such as course structure, facilities, entry & interview requirements, placement arrangement, professional qualifications, graduate prospects and more!

  • How do you become a Registered Nurse in the UK?

    The Nursing profession in the UK is divided into Adult Nursing, Children’s Nursing and Mental Health Nursing. Students are required to complete an approved degree programme, before they can register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a registered nurse. And Nursing programmes in Oxford Brookes University are approved programmes by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC)! In this section, Mrs Morey will provide an overview of the Nursing profession, introducing the professional divisions in nursing, professional responsibilities and ethics, day-to-day works of a nurse, as well as common teaching modules and opportunities in clinical practices during your studies.

  • Working in the UK after graduation: A shortage occupation

    Nurses is currently one of UK’s shortage occupations. Employment prospect of nursing graduates is therefore extremely well! In Oxford Brookes University, 92% of Adult Nursing graduates were in employments within sixth months after graduation. In this section, Mrs Sally Morey will provide insight on the possibility for international students to work in the UK. She will provide an overview of the employment prospects of her Nursing students and also introduce the career support services available in the University.

  • Coming back to Hong Kong to practise: How do you become a Registered Nurse in Hong Kong?
    UK-registered nurses are eligible to sit the Nursing Council Licensing Examination in Hong Kong. Students can become a registered nurse after they’ve successfully passed the licensing exam. However, the highly fluctuating pass rates of the licensing exam do mean that it’s not an easy exam to pass! In this section, we will share more statistics about the licensing exam, so that students and parents will have a better understanding about coming back to Hong Kong to practise as a nurse.
  • Programme introduction:
    Nursing is available in Oxford Brookes University in three main undegraduate programmes – BSc (Hons) Adult Nursing, BSc (Hons) Children’s Nursing, and BSc (Hons) Mental Health Nursing – which are suitable for HKDSE and GCE A-levels graduates. In postgraduate level, the University also offers 2-year and 3-year Master’s programmes that accept graduates with a health-related degree, and graduates from other academic disciplines respectively. Mrs Morey will provide an overview about these programmes, covering areas such as course structure, entry & interview arrangements, exams & other assessments, etc.

Set in Oxfordshire, Oxford Brookes University is one of the polytechnics that were granted university status in 1992. The university is most famous for subjects such as Tourism & Hospitality Management, Building & Surveying and Architecture. Starting from 2018/19, the University will accept international students to its Nursing and Social Work degrees. The University is also offering more January-start options in undergraduate, including disciplines such as Business, Economics, Accounting & Finance, as well as Politics & international Relations.

The world-renowned hospitality school of Oxford Brookes University was named one of the best three hospitality schools in the world in 2016. It’s also one that puts a strong emphasis on hands-on experience. Only offering one four-year programme in undergraduate, year two students on the programme go through a placement year on compulsory paid placement schemes in the UK or other places in the world. In the past, students have done placement in international hotel chains such as Marriott and Hilton, while some have also worked with BAFTA, gaining experience in more of a festival management context.
