In the Seminar, Lucy Stephens (Lecturer in Physiotherapy) and Joanna Mcnamara (Senior Lecturer in Radiotherapy and Oncology) from Sheffield Hallam University will introduce their Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Radiography programmes, covering areas such as course structure & content, facilities, entry requirement, mode of assessment, professional qualifications, graduate prospect and more!
- What’s Physiotherapy? What’s Occupational Therapy? And What’s Radiography?
- What are their differences? How do Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist work together when they work with patients?
- What are the differences between Diagnostic Radiography and Therapeutic Radiography? Is there differences in registration requirements for professional status too?
- We’ve all heard of X-Ray and CT Scans, but there are lots of other services provided by the Radiology department in hospitals. Which of these are performed by a Radiographer?
- What attributes does the University look for in a student? Where should applicants pay extra attention when they prepare for their applications and interviews?
- Course Introduction: The lecturers will briefly introduce their programmes – BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy, BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy, BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography, BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy & Oncology – covering areas such as course structure, professional qualifications, placement opportunities, etc.
Professional Qualification
All of these three professions are regulated by the Supplementary Medical Professions Ordinance in Hong Kong. If students plan to return to Hong Kong and practise as a physiotherapist, an occupational therapist or a radiographer, they must first obtain respective registered status in the UK before they are eligible to register in Hong Kong.
Physiotherapy
The BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy in Sheffield Hallam University is approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP), which therefore qualifies graduates for registration with HCPC as a physiotherapist. The BSc (Hons) is also one of the Quotable Qualifications of Physiotherapists Board of Hong Kong. Graduates of the Programme therefore are eligible to register with the Physiotherapists Board of Hong Kong, after registration in the UK.
Occupational Therapy
The BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy in Sheffield Hallam University is approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT), which therefore qualifies graduates for registration with HCPC as an occupational therapist. The BSc (Hons) is also one of the Quotable Qualifications of Occupational Therapists Board of Hong Kong. Graduates of the Programme therefore are eligible to register with the Occupational Therapists Board of Hong Kong, after registration in the UK and fulfilling relevant requirements on post-registration professional experience.
Radiography
The BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography and BSc (Hons) Radiotherapy & Oncology in Sheffield Hallam University are both approved by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) and the Society & College of Radiographers in the UK, which therefore qualifies graduates for registration with HCPC as a radiographer. Graduates of the Programmes therefore are eligible to register with the Radiographers Board of Hong Kong, after registration in the UK and fulfilling relevant requirements on post-registration professional experience and class hours in professional modules.
